The IFMGA enables all interested member associations to deliver the IFMGA Rope Access Standard in their respective countries.

The IFMGA Rope Access Standard
The IFMGA Rope Access Standard is a high-level rope access system used in both industrial settings and in the field of natural hazards. As different rope access techniques are required depending on the area of application, a range of techniques are taught accordingly in the IFMGA RAS.
Excerpt from the IFMGA Standard Training
Minimum age requirement
Minimum age of entrant for levels 1 + 2 is 18 years.
Minimum age for level 3 is 21 years.
Rope Access Specialist / Working at height Level 1
Any person who is healthy and fit can take this 1st level course.
However, a basic course or knowledge in personal protective equipment (PPE) and knowledge of knots are recommended.
Rope Access Specialist / Working at height Level 2
Those who have successfully completed Level 1 at least 6 months previously, and have extensive experience working on ropes, can then continue on to the Level 2 course.
Rope Access Specialist / Working at height Level 3
Those who have successfully completed Level 2 at least 12 months previously, and have extensive experience working on ropes, can then continue on to the Level 3 course.
History
Since the early 2000s, training for rope access workers has been regulated by law in Switzerland and in most European countries.
